Following years of planning, 2006 sees re-development begin on Bermondsey Square with flats, offices, shops, a local cinema and a hotel being constructed on the site of the Market.

The Market is set to continue trading throughout the build process (and survive as the square is bulldozed and re-shaped around it).

What of the market and the people associated with it? What will survive? What kind of market will emerge at the end of this process?  And what has gone before, never to be seen again?

Market’ currently shooting and due to finish in 2008, reveals the story of the Market, past, present and future, told through the voices of the stall holders, locals, historians, councillors and developers. It reveals the personal stories behind the changes, reflecting the themes of loss, transformation and renewal, as the bulldozers rage within feet of the stalls and concrete towers begin to grow around the square.

The film will provide a visual meditation on the changing shape and nature of a unique London institution.
